Monica had always dreamed of her wedding day but had never really focused on the details. When she got engaged, she was suddenly aware of how much she didn’t know about the process. As an African American bride on a budget, she had trouble coming up with the inspiration to bring her vision to life.
Monica and Christopher had met while participating for a half-marathon. Beyond their love of running, they also shared a love of board games, volunteering in soup kitchens, and really good food.
As a busy grad student, Monica didn’t have a lot of time for planning. She started looking at a few Pinterest boards, but after being unable to find anything that looked like what she wanted, she called in Martine from Wedding M.D. for help with planning. With the help of designer Florence Labaze, Martine was able to translate her vision into reality.
The first step to creating the intimate setting was finding a venue that would suit her vision (industrial chic, but conveniently located in her hometown). Martine helped them with venue shopping, and when she found The Time Hotel in Nyack, Monica knew it was the place for her.
Once the venue had been decided, it was time to look for her other vendors. Monica didn’t realize just how many vendors would be needed for a wedding day! Thankfully, her wedding planner had her covered so that she could focus on just making a final decision as opposed to spending valuable time on sourcing, vetting, and hiring all her needed wedding vendors. She was so thankful to just be able to confirm her preferences and leave the planning to someone else. Martine was able to keep her inside her budget while not skimping on the details that really mattered to her and her fiancé.
With vendors hired and details planned, checked, and decided, it was finally time for the wedding day. It was amazing how fast the day went! With only pictures to remember the day, Monica and Christopher were happy to recall the joy and fun they’d been able to experience on their special day. Even though they had to keep it small, the people who mattered most were able to attend and they didn’t need to skimp on the details. From beautiful stationery and signage, gorgeous flowers, a custom-made dress, and delicious food, Monica and Christopher have memories that will last a lifetime.
